Youtube Evian Skating Babies

Today's Video Fix is just for fun -- a collection of viral vids we've been hearing about this week, including skating babies, that Japanese music video with the webcam genius and the huge MJ dance in Stockholm. With the addition of outbound links on videos, YouTube has increased the potential value of these campaigns: in this case the skating baby video links to Evian's "Live Young" site. The video, which ranks 3rd overall on YouTube this week (after two Michael Jackson videos), has racked up nearly 3 million total YouTube views at the time of writing.

The differing rankings are explained by Visible Measures' methodology: the company tracks 150 video sites (including YouTube (YouTube)), and tracks multiple postings of the same clip. The anatomy of a successful YouTube marketing campaign seems hard to fathom: while ad agencies long to find that secret sauce to take an online video to the top of the charts, few succeed. I saw this Evian ad of roller skating babies and thought it was just too darn cute - not to mention a success for the marketing team behind it, since the 3.9 mil views as of this posting is an obvious sign its gone viral, LOL!

The advert which appears on YouTube featuring roller-skating babies has become a sensation with almost 4 million views and a case in-point for social media distribution of otherwise traditional media campaigns. This week's YouTube marketing champion uses a tried and tested formula: cute babies, and a bizarre situation. Meanwhile, Ad Age's viral video chart (which uses Visible Measures' web wide video tracking to rank online ads) ranks the clip in 2nd place on the wider web this week, being beaten to the top spot by the return of Air New Zealand's "body paint" ad.

The 60-second film was shot at London's Pinewood Studios as part of mineral water brand Evian's 'Live Young' international TV and web video campaign.
